Jan Van Angelopoulos

Giannis Angelopoulos is a drummer and composer. Jan Van (de Engel) Angelopoulos, the pseudonym he uses for the music he writes, is an unconventional Dutch translation of his name. He has used it since his studies at the Rotterdam Conservatory (BA in Music Performance, Jazz & World Music Department, 2002). He is a long-standing collaborator and member of the VASISTAS collective. Among other works, he has composed music for Argyro Chioti’s productions “AIMATA” (Onassis Stegi, 2014), “The Libation Bearers” (Athens & Epidaurus Festival, 2018), “No man is an island entire of itself” (National Museum of Contemporary Art, Athens, 2020), “Frogs” (Athens & Epidaurus Festival, 2021), and “Halepas” (Onassis Stegi, 2022). He has also collaborated with theater directors, including Vassilis Papavasileiou, Efi Theodorou, and Nikos Hatzopoulos. He has composed music for Stereo Nero Dance Co’s productions, including “Dalga” (2018), “Vocal Passions” (Athens & Epidaurus Festival, 2019), and “442” (Onassis Stegi, 2021). He has also collaborated with choreographers Katerina Foti and Christiana Kosiari.
