Award-winning filmmakers from the Onassis Culture ecosystem come together at the Onassis Stegi Upper Stage to discuss the creation of a short film, from the conception of an idea to its presentation to the public.

When is a script ready to move into pre-production? What are the challenges of filming on location? How does one find their cast? What is the process for submitting to film festivals? Short films carry powerful emotions, but also equally significant challenges. For the second year, a masterclass dedicated to all stages of making a short film is being organized. This year’s speakers are Big Short Film Winners 2024, Alexandros Kostopoulos and Alexandra Matheou, Big Short Film Winner 2024 and Onassis AiR Fellow 2024/25, Catriona Gallagher, and Onassis AiR Fellows Alkisti Efthymiou (2022/23) and Efi Gousi (2025/26). The masterclass is moderated by director and screenwriter Elina Psykou and producer Yorgos Tsourgiannis.

During the masterclass, the filmmakers will discuss specific stages of the filmmaking process, using the movies they created as part of the Big Short Films Open Call and their Onassis Fellowship as case studies. Films that have not yet been completed will serve as a starting point for a creative discussion and exchange of ideas on a wide range of topics. A Q&A session with the audience will follow the presentations. The masterclass is aimed at film school students and emerging creators from all fields of film production who are early in their careers.
