Stratos Bichakis (b. 1984, Greece) is a media artist and composer living in Berlin. He works with a range of cutting-edge technologies and is actively engaged in the fields of artistic creation, education, and engineering. Stratos’ interest in psychoacoustics, as well as visual, spatial, and temporal perception, informs his creative approach. He is currently studying Art and Media at the University of Arts Berlin (UdK), expanding his artistic practice in Generative/Computational Art (Prof. Alberto de Campo), Experimental Film (Prof. Nina Fisher), and Time-Based Art (guest Prof. Jenna Sutela). He is part of the S4NTP collective and the Wearable Computing team (Prof. Berit Greinke, Einstein Center for Digital Future).

He is a member of the Contemporary Music Research Center in Athens (ΚΣΥΜΕ). He co-founded the creative hub Ubique in Athens in 2018, hosting a series of seminars and workshops on experimental music practice. His work has been presented at festivals and exhibitions in Europe, North America, and Asia (CTM Festival, Documenta14, ADAF, Mois Multi, Electrons Libres, Tectonics, Lexus Hybrid Art).

His engineering work developing kinetic light systems for artists Michela Pelusio (IT) and Christopher Bauder (DE) has been featured in acclaimed audiovisual performances and exhibitions (MUTEK, LEV Festival, DARK MATTER, SKALAR, DEEP WEB, ABBA Voyage).

Over the years, he has worked with various materials and ever-changing modalities and practices of artistic creation, education, and product development. Inquiries into psychoacoustics, auditory, visual, spatial, and temporal perception inform his approach, which extends to the creation and adaptation of tools or instruments and the fabrication of experiences. A big advocate of co-creation and participatory processes, he invites different perspectives and materials in dialogue, anticipating the diffusion of ideas and osmotic exchange between territories and narratives, providing time and space for exchange, reflection, and exploration. He considers art, especially sound and light, as mediums to probe the unconscious and cognitive nonconscious agencies shared between humans, non-humans, and technical assemblages.

Stratos Bichakis is an Onassis AiR Fellow for 2025/26 through the AiR/ONX Fellowship program.
