Ioannis Vaxevanakis
Ioannis Vaxevanakis is a PhD candidate in the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA). His research focuses on developing approximation algorithms for combinatorial optimization problems on graphs, with an emphasis on prediction methods (AI), applications in biological networks, and disease gene prediction.
He graduated from the Department of Mathematics at the University of Patras and completed postgraduate studies in Bioinformatics at NKUA. During his doctoral studies, he has received significant scholarships supporting his research, including a scholarship from the Bodossaki Foundation and funding from the Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation (HFRI). His academic trajectory is marked by distinctions and high performance: he participated in the SEEMOUS 2014 mathematics competition with the University of Patras team, winning a bronze medal, and graduated first in his class.
His research and academic work include publications in international conferences and journals, participation in Greek and international conferences (ACCAC, CodeJam), and service as a reviewer for international conferences (COCOA, COCOON, TAMC) and journals (“Discrete Applied Mathematics,” “European Journal of Operational Research,” “The Computer Journal”). He has also contributed teaching and assistant work to the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications at NKUA.
He currently works as a data analyst in the Human Resources Division of the National Bank of Greece, combining research activity with the application of his expertise to real-world data and problems. His dedication to research, the continuous pursuit of excellence, and commitment to solving complex problems are the key characteristics of his career, while his doctoral scholarships are a recognition of his contribution and potential in academia.
