Α pioneer biologist on male reproductive potential

Medicine, Research, Human Reproduction

After many years of working in the field of human reproduction, Dr Lina Evgeni has focused on laboratory data concerning male reproductive potential. In the context of her PhD thesis, she studied the levels of basic and specialized semen parameters in order to assess the probability of a man’s contribution to a successful pregnancy.

She has also designed, selected and analyzed data, based on which she wrote the study “Conventional Semen Parameters and DNA fragmentation in relation to fertility status in a Greek population”, published in the “European Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Reproductive Biology”. Through the findings and data analysis of this particular study, she was asked to contribute to the new (sixth) manual of the World Health Organization for the examination and processing of human semen.

This invitation and her contribution to the international process of updating evaluation methodologies is a prestigious and notable recognition for Greece, since for the first time data from the Greek population will be used in a global-scale study. The most important achievement of her research is its contribution to the improvement of diagnostic services for subfertile men, forming the basis for more effective treatment strategies.
