Apostolos Krystallidis

Apostolos Krystallidis is a graduate of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens and has been an Onassis Foundation scholar since 2016 for postgraduate studies at ETH Zurich in the field of artificial intelligence and robotics.

During his studies at ETH, he completed an internship at the ABB’s Research Department of ABB and participated in global robotics competitions with humanoid robots, representing the university. He then conducted his master’s thesis research at IBM Research, which was incorporated into IBM Watson. IBM Watson was among the first and most innovative platforms to leverage AI, aiming to bring meaningful change to healthcare by supporting doctors in decision-making, improving diagnostic processes, and paving the way for more personalized treatments.

After completing his studies, he worked as an artificial intelligence R&D engineer at Hexagon Research, developing state-of-the-art computer vision algorithms (2D and 3D) based on multiple sensors, such as cameras and LiDAR. Since October 2022, he has been working at Siemens Smart Infrastructure’s Global Headquarters. Initially serving as a Senior ML Engineer and now as Head of a global AI engineering team, his mission is to develop AI algorithms and services that realize the vision of autonomous, human-centric buildings: buildings that ‘understand’ their users, autonomously adapt operating conditions for maximum comfort and performance, while minimizing their energy footprint, reducing costs and emissions, and actively contributing to a more sustainable future.

At the same time, he is highly active in the startup ecosystem, participating either as an angel investor or as an advisor to teams leveraging artificial intelligence to develop solutions with meaningful social impact. He focuses on strategy development, product–market fit, and partnership growth to unlock markets, while supporting founders in organizational scaling and access to capital networks and strategic partners.
