Markellos Polydorou | Invisible Forces

“Invisible Forces” explores the unseen forces that shape bodies, garments, and identities. The project begins with the observation that transformation is never neutral; bodies and materials are constantly affected by physical, emotional, social, and environmental pressures that leave visible traces on form, movement, and behavior.

Drawing from processes found in nature, adaptation, growth, gravity, and pressure, the research examines how garments can become tools for making these hidden forces perceptible. Just as living organisms continuously respond to their surroundings, garments are understood as structures that register and reveal the conditions acting upon them.

The project investigates the relationship between the body and forces such as desire, fear, memory, social expectations, and collective norms. Although intangible, these influences shape posture, movement, perception, and the ways bodies occupy space. Through material experimentation, structural interventions, and interdisciplinary dialogue, garments become sites where invisible influences take physical form.

Positioned between fashion, material research, and artistic practice, “Invisible Forces” approaches the garment not as a finished object but as a responsive system. It asks how clothing might reveal the continuous negotiations between bodies and their environments, making visible the forces that quietly shape who we become.
