Dhruv Bandil | Language Of Stitch

“Language of Stitch” explores stitch as a structural and expressive language in textiles. It comes from my interest in the power of stitch and in the possibility of taking craft somewhere new. I want to begin with research, observation, and reflection, and then gradually translate these ideas into material explorations that investigate rhythm, density, and transformation through textile processes.

For me, these experiments are a way of thinking. They help me understand how a surface can become structure, how detail can become construction, and how something handmade can move beyond decoration and become part of the identity of a garment.

Being in Athens will play an important role in shaping this process. The city’s layered history, its archaeological sites, and the visible traces of time and erosion will influence how I think about surface, structure, and material transformation. Observing these environments will inform my approach to stitch, allowing me to respond to textures, patterns, and forms found in the surroundings.

The project will gradually move from research to samples and material studies, and from there toward a series of textile outcomes that carry the research within them.
