“Blissfully or We Found Love in a Hopeless Place” uses Rihanna’s song as a starting point for new choreographic research exploring melancholy and the sense of a canceled future as collective conditions shared by an entire generation. How can we move against a present that seems to be falling apart? Through movement, “Blissfully or We Found Love in a Hopeless Place” seeks to explore exactly this contradiction: on the one hand, the body’s desire for excess and intimacy, and on the other, the privileged desire to withdraw from a world in which the imagination of alternatives appears to be exhausted. The research aims to shift the song’s “We Found Love” from the realm of the personal to that of the collective, seeking new modes of relating among bodies today.
