Introduction

Stegi.Radio is coming back, this time in the Exhibition Hall –1 of Onassis Stegi, presenting an original music show entitled “Strange.” It aims is to create a hybrid platform with the city’s young and emerging curators and musicians, broadcasting loudly to a restless audience.

For four nights, four young curators select unexpected sounds that reflect the future of the local scene. Drawing inspiration from a multitude of different music fields ranging from dance electronic music, experimentation, and hip-hop sounds, Vasilis Paxinos, KOKETAMC, Saber Rider, and Whystine will invite artists of the Athenian music scene to present a subversive audiovisual effect. EvelinaEgw presents the “Strange” show.

Gathering artists that push creative boundaries and an audience thirsty to discover the next “new sound,” the “Strange” series is here loud and clear to host and highlight the city’s new talents.

The “Strange” concert series is a manifestation of Onassis Stegi’s unwavering commitment to nurture and support new talents that work in the field of contemporary music. At the same time, it aims to suggest a new meeting point among the music community, where its members can exchange ideas and work with the most experienced technical crew of the city. The support of young artists and cultural professionals at every stage of their career, especially those who make their very first steps, is essential to fostering a vital and thriving music ecosystem.

Curatorial Note
"Strange is a new platform that seeks to bring together young curators, producers, and artists of the local music scene. Its driving force is the need to listen to and explore the city’s pulse, giving young artists a space to meet, develop their ideas, and cultivate their unique talents and skills. The aim is to bring out new voices from within this artistic community, creating a context where their inspiration can flourish, always with Onassis Stegi’s support, guidance, and rich repository of tools at their disposal.

‘Strange’ has a hybrid character, focusing on live music while borrowing elements from the TV and talk show format, with influences from the similar 1990s MTV and ‘Top of the Pops’ shows, and aesthetic references from Greek trash TV. The events employ the notions of the weird and the uncanny, creating a unique and unexpected aesthetic universe each time, where high concept meets trash, the eerie meets the humorous, and different and seemingly contradictory genres ‘fight each other’ and combine, drawing the audience into a simultaneously weird and seductive experience."
