What does it mean to retell an ancient myth for a contemporary audience? How can a playwright and director breathe new life into a story that has echoed through the centuries?

On the occasion of his Olivier-award winning arresting rewriting of Sophocles’ tragedy “Oedipus” premiering on the Onassis Stegi Main Stage, acclaimed British director and playwright Robert Icke invites theater professionals to a rare and thought-provoking session on reimagining ancient Greek tragedy on stage.

Known to Greek audiences from “The Doctor” and his adaptation of George Orwell’s “1984,” Icke will open up his creative process—examining the enduring power of Greek tragedy and the bold choices behind his radical reimagining of “Oedipus.” What remains timeless in Sophocles’ tale—and what demands reinvention?

With his signature blend of psychological insight and formal innovation, Icke challenges theatrical conventions and redefines the possibilities of the stage.

Don’t miss this unique opportunity to engage with one of Europe’s most visionary theatrical minds, who reimagines the possibilities of contemporary playwriting.
