With the theme and title “Expanding the Horizons of Organ Donation and Transplantation: The Time Is Now,” this year’s Masterclass brings together more than 150 participants. More urgently than ever, Greece is called upon to build on the progress made in recent years and enter a phase of maturity. Following five years of steady increase in transplants for the country, the 7th Transplant Masterclass opens a new cycle of reflection and action, seeking answers to the major questions that lie ahead. Prominent speakers from Greece and abroad will present the latest approaches to the diagnosis and confirmation of death (updated neurological criteria, ancillary tests, special cases, diagnosis based on circulatory criteria), analyze the expanded opportunities in the transplantation process, but also in the machine organ perfusion, and delve into quality assurance introducing the European ODEQUS system and organ-specific indicators.

A central focus of this year’s Masterclass is Donation after Circulatory Death (DCD): its prerequisites and current regulatory framework, legal considerations, communication with families, the process of withdrawing life support, and the complete DCD ‘pathway.’

Through lectures, sessions, clinical cases, and workshops (DBD, DCD, ‘donation scenarios’), the Transplant Masterclass effectively broadens the horizons of collaboration and documentation, laying the foundations for a comprehensive, functional, and fair transplant system, where knowledge, quality, and respect for human beings are translated into action.

To full program of the masterclass will be announced soon.
