Vassilia Kaga (b. 1990) is a queer, feminist curator and performer whose multifaceted practice challenges heteronormative, classist, and dominant narratives in both art and the public sphere. They graduated from the Department of Communication, Media, and Culture at Panteion University in Athens, specializing in Cultural Management. Vassilia has worked in self-organized artistic projects across Greece, Germany, and Sweden, focused on empowering marginalized voices. In 2017, they initiated the “Aye Mari” exhibition series in Berlin, exploring queer curation as a tool for healing and empowerment. Vassilia challenges academic language in curatorial texts, adopting poetic manifestos for a more inclusive artistic experience.
Vassilia is a recipient of the ARTWORKS Fellowship (2020–21) and served as co-editor for the annual publication during the third year of the SNF ARTWORKS Fellowship Program. Since 2022, they have been studying Psychodynamic Psychotherapy while working at the art space The Intermission and the art advisory company Artemis Contemporary Inc. In 2024, their first poetic art book, “Seminaria” (Mpataria Editions), was published.
Vassilia seeks to create exhibitions that act as cracks in the present—sites of queer utopia where we can collectively imagine different worlds. Their ongoing research explores art as a space for collective healing and political emancipation, experimenting with new curatorial forms that resist and reimagine dominant power structures.
Vassilia Kaga is a participant of the Onassis AiR Extended Research Residencies program for 2025/26.
