Maria Genitsariou
Maria Genitsariou
Maria Genitsariou is a visual artist and calligrapher. She studied graphic arts and Greek and Latin paleography. In addition to Greek calligraphy, she also works with Latin, Chinese, Japanese, Hebrew, Coptic, and Aramaic calligraphic traditions. She researches and studies manuscripts in Greece and abroad with the aim of reproducing, standardizing, and disseminating Greek letterforms, as well as the writing tools and materials used in their illumination and illustration, including pigments and writing surfaces. Using writing as her primary medium, she creates artists’ manuscript books, calligrams, and visual artworks that incorporate text.
She has presented her work in numerous exhibitions in Greece and internationally and teaches calligraphy and material techniques in workshops. Believing in the boundless potential of Greek calligraphy, she participates in programs that promote it in Greece and abroad, and has collaborated with ARC (Art Revisited Collective) since June 2021 and with Triton & Shell—Paper Art Hub since 2025.
