SOAP has been selected for the EMAP 2024 residency at Onassis Stegi

SOAP, Some Online Architecture Practice, (Bettina Katja Lange, Dominic Schwab, Uwe Brunner) will develop and present their project “V-REAL” in Athens. A poignant critique of the relentless wholesale commodification of our domestic lives, shedding light on its profound implications for housing markets and the unchecked monetization of our private data.

Discover “V-REAL”

Through the ironic lens of the fictional rental service enterprise VAPORS, the project unveils a near-future scenario of unconventional living conditions, marked by the unbridled voracity of experience capitalism and the possibility of a complete domestic sellout.

“Consider the possibility that all homes could be your home. VAPORS delivers real homes and real lives, always to your convenience."

-VAPORS, CEO

V-REAL offers a glimpse into a changing domestic lifestyle, exploring the tension between technology and intimacy, voyeurism and empathy. Through a series of XR performances, an interactive and reflective dialogue is designed to critically consider the complexities of dwelling, belonging, and their mediation.

Τhe EMAP 2024 residency is part of Onassis AiR within the Onassis ONX, and it will provide additional expertise, consulting, and networking opportunities for "V-REAL"

ABOUT THE EMAP RESIDENCY PROGRAM
The European Media Art Platform (EMAP), co-funded by the Creative Europe program of the European Union, aims to support collaboration projects by emerging artists who work critically with technologies in the fields of video, digital art, robotics, bio art and other forms of media art. Since the platform's launch in 2018, 75 projects have been commissioned, earning over 30 international awards. Many more EMAP commissions have been presented at prestigious institutions such as the Centre Pompidou in Paris, Tate Modern in London, Filmfest Locarno, and the Venice Biennale. Following an international open call that received 586 artist proposals from 42 countries, we are excited to announce the artists selected for 2024. All 16 media artists and artist groups will take part in an international two-month fully funded residency with an EMAP member organization, culminating in a series of group exhibitions over the next few years.
