Angeliki Tseliou
Creator of the program “Next Station: Victoria | Nächste Station: Victoriaplatz”
Aggeliki Tseliou has conceived and created a project – an experiment – for the historic and multicultural neighborhood of Victoria in central Athens. A program of educational and social innovation, it follows the German traces in one of the most frequented squares of the city center, unraveling important facts and events that have marked the overall history of modern Greece. Her idea was realized in collaboration with the Victoria Square Project through the co-funding of the German Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, using resources from the Greek-German Fund for the Future, as well as through the support of the European Forum for Freedom in Education.
In the context of the program, three workshops of fine art photography took place for students of the Athens Intercultural Elementary School and of the Second General Lyceum Theodoros Angelopoulos. Two walks were also planned around traces of Greek-German exchanges in terms of memory, landmarks, and the architecture of the area. Due to the pandemic, these were later developed online with the contribution of students and residents.
At the same time, students and residents of Victoria Square were invited to depict their own impressions of their neighborhood, where their everyday activities unravel, using the information and tools offered by the program.
In realizing her idea, which became possible through the participation of students, residents, scientists and artists, Aggeliki Tseliou also collaborated with Κarpos – Centre of Education and Intercultural Communication, MONUMENTA, a non profit-making organization for the protection of natural and architectural heritage in Greece and Cyprus, as well as with the World Human Forum. The program’s methodology, tools and findings are featured in the digital publication “Seeking German Traces in Victoria Square”.
