“Giant Steps” is a screenplay that explores the idea of feeding the very system you are trying to destroy; in this case, the patriarchy and all other systems it intersects with.

The story is told through the eyes of the protagonist Paul, an 18-year-old who has just moved to London to start university. It is within his first week in London that Paul meets Iris, who is performing at an open mic. Immediately, after having tried cocaine for the first time, Paul jumps headfirst into trying to win Iris’ affection, revealing a side of himself he did not really know existed. Much to Paul’s dismay, Iris is preoccupied with her blossoming career as a singer-songwriter, the fallout from a toxic relationship that has recently ended, and a chaotic love affair with her drummer Amos. Paul, however, continues to push the limits, as his want to settle in his new home and his want to be with Iris start to intertwine. Amidst asylum-seeker detention protests, drug-fueled parties, and his crumbling friendship with his best friend Jay, Paul must find out what Iris means to him and, more importantly, what he means to Iris.

The initial idea for the project began in 2022, and is partly inspired by Greentea Peng’s 2021 song “Nah It Ain’t the Same,” from the album “MAN MADE.”
