Wura Moraes is a Luso-Brazilian dancer and choreographer. She graduated in dance from Faculdade Angel Vianna (Rio de Janeiro, 2009–2013) and continued her training at École des Sables (Senegal, 2013), EDIT (Burkina Faso, 2014), and FAICC (Porto, 2015).
She co-created “Alienada” and “Agente” (2015/2017) with Joana Lopes, and performed in “Cribles 7Live Porto” by Emmanuelle Huynh (2015/2019). In Bahia, alongside Loke Wolf, she developed the research platform Autodidança.
Moraes was the coordinator of international residencies at AgitLAB (Águeda), curated by Paulina Almeida, and co-produced LAMB (Land Art Moving Biennial). She also co-coordinated “Dance Temple” with Malgosia Sus and co-directed “Ilhas Suspensas” with Darya Efrat – both projects developed for Festival dos Canais (Aveiro).
In 2021, she performed in “NKISI”, directed by Gil Mac and Colectivo LOA. She created the solo “CERN”, presented in Águeda (2020/2021) and Marrakech (2022), and co-created the video performance “Time Capsule / O Sonho do Guerreiro – Homage to Mário Calixto” for the Jelsa Art Biennial – JAB (Croatia).
In 2023, she took part in “Serei/Afrodiaspórica”, a runway-performance by Dori Nigro, and appeared in the video performances “Eco_Movements” by Plastic Art Performance Collective (Romania) and “Un Enclos (pour l’impératrice)” by Charles Cardin-Bourbeau (Canada). She was a video performer in the theater play “Descobri-quê”, directed by Cátia Pinheiro, Dori Nigro, and José Nunes for the “National Odyssey” program of the Teatro D. Maria II. She also performed in “Feijoada” by Calixto Neto at TMP Rivoli and the Alkantara Festival (Lisbon).
In 2024, she joined the Portuguese delegation at Tanzmesse (Dusseldorf) and participated in the film “Transplanting” by Mónica de Miranda, created within the Greenhouse 2024 project for the Portuguese Pavilion at the Venice Biennale. As part of a co-production with the DDD Festival Dias da Dança, she premiered “HENDA I XALA”, a work within the larger project “Confluences”, which is an homage to her father, the dancer and choreographer Mário Calixto (1960–1996).
In 2025, she co-created the show “Aether – Cruzamento” with musicians João Pedro Brandão, Demian Cabaud, Marcos Cavaleiro, and performer Ana Rita Xavier. She performed in “violetas” by Vânia Doutel Vaz at DDD and in “Reverberations of a Body-Screen”, presented in the exhibition “Depth of Field” by Mónica de Miranda for the Porto Municipal Galleries.
