Vasilis Papageorgiou (b. 1991) is an artist based in Athens. His work has been featured in numerous group and solo exhibitions in Greece and internationally. In 2024, he presented his first institutional solo exhibition at the Salzburger Kunstverein in Austria.
In 2023, he was an artist-in-residence at LUMA Arles, and in 2022, he received the Matteo Viglietta Award in Turin, Italy. His work is included in several notable collections, including the Onassis Collection and Collezione La Gaia.
Vasilis Papageorgiou’s practice explores themes of togetherness, communication, and solitude, reflecting on the role of leisure in everyday life. He focuses on semi-private or semi-public spaces—such as bars, beaches, or local football stadiums—where people reclaim their right to be alone together, experiencing both community and solitude.
His recent work engages with the sculptural language of coastal architecture and human intervention, examining the politics of tourism and its impact on the environment and the human body. Addressing the depletion of natural resources and the physical and mental toll of contemporary life, Papageorgiou creates spaces for imagination, questioning the systems that shape modern existence and how we navigate freedom, leisure, and collective experience.
