Siemon Scamell-Katz is a contemporary painter who lives and works in France. In his attempt to record a landscape, his strives to offer the viewer a sensation of sharing the experience of being in that same landscape. As a painter, one can never truly see everything that lies before them – seeing is a process of estimation, albeit a highly skilled one. In that sense, it is impossible to be a representative painter; one can only ever provide an approximation of what is there. Drawing on his knowledge of human vision, Scamell-Katz creates non-figurative paintings that explore the experience of landscape through perception and memory.

Siemon Scamell-Katz is an Onassis AiR Fellow for 2025/26.
