Raquel Castro

Raquel Castro is a Portuguese soundscape researcher, documentary director, and sound art curator. Her work involves extensive and multi-level sound studies and research, as well as media productions and curatorial practices in the field of sound art. She is the founder and director of the Lisboa Soa environmental sound art festival, and of the Invisible Places international symposium. Her practice-based research has also resulted in a variety of films about sound, such as “Soundwalkers” (2008) and “Soa” (2020), where interviews, sound art, and sonic ambiences combine to communicate knowledge to their audiences. She is an integrated researcher at the Center for Research in Applied Communication, Culture and New Technologies (CICANT) in Lisbon, developing projects that investigate the aural experience of urban territories. Castro believes in sound art as a resource for inspiring and sparking learning, curiosity, and action.
