Mare Spanoudaki

Mare Spanoudaki is a multidisciplinary researcher, curator, and cultural worker whose practice operates at the intersection of social movements and identity politics, folk and popular (sub)culture, institutional critique, and exhibition histories. With an academic background in Communication & Media Studies, Cultural Policy & Management, and Exhibition Studies, she works across curating, research, archiving, writing, and cultural production. Her projects span community-based initiatives, digital archives, publications, and contemporary art exhibitions, and her writings have been featured in various catalogs, academic journals, and art books. She has collaborated with cultural institutions across Europe and has been supported by fellowships, including START—Create Cultural Change, ARTWORKS, and ARCAthens. She has also participated in the UNIDEE residency program “Neither on Land nor at Sea” (Module IV). Since 2017, she has co-led the artistic/curatorial synergy ‘This is not a feminist project.’ She is particularly interested in developing research-driven, collectively produced projects that expand exhibition-making as a social and relational activity and explore situated forms of cultural organization and knowledge production. Across her work, she foregrounds kindness and intimacy as both methodology and subject matter. Drawing on “low theory” approaches, she resists grand narratives and instead focuses on personal stories as ways of exploring life and humanity.
