Kostis Glykantzis

Kostis Glykantzis lives and works in Athens. He studied Law at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens before turning to theater. He went on to study Dramaturgy and Performance Studies in the Department of Theater at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and Directing at the Drama School of the National Theatre of Greece. During his studies, he attended workshops in Butoh, viewpoints, dramaturgy, dance, and physical theater.

He has worked as an actor, assistant director, and costume designer, collaborating with Giannos Perlegas (“The Force of Habit” by Thomas Bernhard, ROES Theater, 2026, actor), Haris Fragoulis (“The Traveler” by E. H. Gonatas, Tempus Verum – En Athinais Theater, 2022, actor and assistant director; “1961” by Giannis Asteris, Little Theatre of Ancient Epidaurus, 2026, assistant director), Alexandra Kazazou (“Journey to Shatila,” Experimental Stage of the National Theatre of Greece, 2025, assistant director), and Panos Iliopoulos (“The Tunnel” by Friedrich Dürrenmatt, Athens Epidaurus Festival, 2026, costume designer).

His graduation performance, “The Night of the Ugly Ones” (National Theatre of Greece – Irene Papas School, 2025), inspired by Mario Benedetti’s short story of the same title, brought together a chorus of ‘ugly’ figures, a cinema screen, original texts, scenes from clichéd romantic films, deliberately off-key songs, and literary fragments in an exploration of our most irrational fantasies and most extreme obsessions.

Together with three emerging playwrights—Dimitra Paraskelidou, Nikos Ntasis, and Emilia Kefala—and the graduating students at the Athens Conservatoire Drama School, he created the triptych performance “Together, For a Very Long Time” (Athens Conservatoire, 2026). He has also directed the music performances “The First Child of the Earth” (Baumstrasse, 2026) and “Je reviens” (Bagkeion Hotel & Plyfa, 2024–2025), in collaboration with the a cappella vocal ensemble renÉssence.

He is currently writing his first feature film screenplay, “Women and Wives,” in collaboration with Yannis Beretsos. The project received development funding from the Hellenic Film and Audiovisual Center (EKOME).
