Joan Sergay

Joan Sergay is a Brooklyn-based director of new work. Recent projects include the world premiere of “Not Not Jane’s” by Mara Nelson-Greenberg at Clubbed Thumb and Broadway’s “Leading Ladies,” a filmed concert now streaming on PBS. Joan has directed and developed work with Manhattan Theatre Club, New York Theatre Workshop, Ars Nova, Ensemble Studio Theater, No Guarantees, Geffen Playhouse, Actors Theatre of Louisville, and Westport Country Playhouse. On Broadway, Joan has served as Associate Director to Robert Icke (“Oedipus”), Sam Mendes (“The Hills of California”), and Rachel Chavkin (“Lempicka”). As an audiobook director for Penguin Random House, Joan has directed over 180 titles. She is also a New Georges Affiliated Artist and alum of residencies and fellowships at New Georges, Clubbed Thumb, Playwrights Horizons, Manhattan Theatre Club, New York Theatre Workshop, the cell theatre, and Actors Theatre of Louisville. She holds a BA in Theater & Creative Writing from the Northwestern University.
