Hiba Ali

Hiba Ali is an artist, writer, educator, and scholar whose work moves across digital environments, moving image, sound, sculpture, performance, and text. Through digital somatics – a practice they developed that brings together embodiment, worldbuilding, and storytelling – they explore technology as a site of memory, relation, and collective imagination.

Their work engages Indian Ocean epistemologies, feminist modes of sensing, and alternative technological futures. Drawing on histories of migration, labor, ritual, language, and networked cultures, they investigate forms of knowledge that exceed extractive and colonial frameworks.

Ali’s work has been presented internationally at institutions and platforms including the Art Institute of Chicago, Ars Electronica, transmediale, re:publica, the Chicago Architecture Biennial, Akademie Schloss Solitude, and Kunstverein Pforzheim. They are Assistant Professor of Performance, Play & Design at the University of California, Santa Cruz.

Across artistic practice, research, and pedagogy, Ali creates spaces for collective dreaming, embodied inquiry, and experimental approaches to technology.
