Brikena Gkisto

Brikena Gishto is a director and poet, living and working in Athens.

She has collaborated with the Experimental Stage for Young Creators of the National Theatre (director), the Municipal Theatre of Piraeus (poet-performer), the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Athens (speaker-poet), the MIR Festival and PAS(si) FRAGILE Festival in Brussels (performer), the DEAFestival GR (director and coordinator of educational activities), among others.

She is a member of the Hellenic Theatre / Drama & Education Network (TENet-GR) and of the organizing team behind the interdisciplinary festival on Gender and Literature “Purple Medusas,” as well as a member of the self-run literary magazine “Restio” of Skiathos.

She has published the poetry collection “Beyond the Fences” with the publishing house Iolkos (2022), and her second poetry collection is expected to be announced.

Her poems and texts have been featured in both online and print literary magazines and translated into various languages (Albanian, Polish, and Spanish).

She is currently an SNFPHI fellow on the project “The Wave Inside the Mind,” a poetry-writing workshop conducted in Greek Sign Language with students from the High School for Deaf and Hard of Hearing in Agia Paraskevi.
