Antigoni Karnesioti-Simantira

Antigoni Karnesioti-Simantira studied philosophy, pedagogy, and psychology (BA) at the University of Athens, focusing on special education. She continued her studies in the Netherlands and the United States, where she completed her master’s degree in educational research. Driven by a love for lifelong learning and personal growth, she is currently completing her second master’s in environmental education as well as a two-year training in ecopsychology.

Alongside her academic work, she is engaged in screenwriting, documentary filmmaking, and photography. Her artistic and research interests focus on how moving image can express and represent the experiences and identities of people facing social oppression, while her recent work also explores issues of environmental justice.

She has directed the short film “Handbrake” (2022), which explores urban accessibility, co-directed the short documentary “Inhale, Exhale” (2024) about forest fires, and is currently in post-production on a feature-length documentary on gender-based violence.
