May – July 2022: Onassis Stegi productions travel around the world

From Hannover in Germany to Montreal, and from Florence to Barcelona, Onassis Stegi productions are journeying to appear at major festivals and theater venues across Europe and Canada with the support of Onassi Stegi’s “Outward Turn” Cultural Export Program.

Out on tour now: “Poetic Consultations”, “A User’s Manual” by Konstantinos Papanikolaou, “ΑΝΩΝΥΜΟ” by Tzeni Argyriou, and “Transverse Orientation” by Dimitris Papaioannou.

On May 7, poetry gave Florence a call. At the other end of the line was Dimitris Daskas and the “Poetic Consultations” performance presented at Teatro de la Pergola – a telephone ritual that transported Italian audiences into a poetic universe.

Following on from the Onassis New Choreographers Festival 9 (ONC9), Konstantinos Papanikolaou travelled to Luxembourg and Geneva with the support of the Grande Luxe Network to present “A User’s Manual” – a solo performance that shifts between lecture, spectacle, and play – at the Centre de Création Chorégraphique Luxembourgeois and L’Abri on May 13 and 14.

Tzeni Argyriou’s “ΑΝΩΝΥΜΟ” is becoming ever-better known thanks to an invitation to appear at the KunstFestSpiele Herrenhausen in Hannover, Germany on May 14 and 15, 2022. Meanwhile, Dimitris Papaioannou’s unspeakably beautiful “Transverse Orientation” is preparing to orientate itself towards the source of light that is the Babs Asper Theater in Ottawa, appearing there on May 24, 25 and 26 – yet another production touring through the support of Onassis Stegi’s “Outward Turn” Cultural Export Program.

On the stages of Europe in June and July

Three years after premiering on the Onassis Stegi Main Stage, Euripides Laskaridis will be captivating and troubling audiences in Montreal with the absurd scenic universe of “ELENIT”, which is heading to Théâtre Jean-Duceppe to appear as part of the Festival TransAmériques, from June 1 through 4. And so a new journey – into a world in pieces yet still standing and always enthralling – begins again.

An iceberg in the heart of French summertime: Christos Papadopoulos’ “Larsen C” is to be performed for one night only – Sunday, June 5 – at the historic Théâtre de l’Aquarium as part of the June Events Festival. Days later, Nikos Karathanos’ “Prometheus” will be bringing a blast of freedom to Montpellier, with two performances to be given at the Printemps des Comédiens Festival on June 10 and 11.

Thanks to the support of Onassis Stegi’s “Outward Turn” Cultural Export Program, four young Greek choreographers – Stavros Zafiris, whom we met as part of the Europe Beyond Access program, Fotini Stamatelopoulou, the choreographer of “optimal soft” alongside its co-creator Despina Sanida-Crezia, and Konstantina Barkouli – will be heading to Paris to take part in the CAMPING Residency and Workshops program organized by the Centre National de la Danse, where they’ll enjoy two weeks of intensive workshops led by internationally acclaimed choreographers.

Ioanna Paraskevopoulou will also be traveling to France to present “MOS” at Théâtre de la Ville on June 25 and 26, as part of this year’s Danse Élargie. A film of her performance “All She Likes Is Popping Bubble Wrap” is also set to be presented at the Vienna Shorts international short film festival, in the non-competitive section, where it is set to thrill audiences through its playful experiments with sound and image. This film will also be screened at Cinedans Fest ’22 in Amsterdam, from June 24 (through July 1).

That same month, “Stones and Bones” by RootlessRoot – a work on the transience of human existence – will be leaving its mark once more, this time at the Malta International Arts Festival on June 25.

July opens with a celebration of movement that is defined by the natural order of things: “Larsen C” is heading to the Julidans Festival in Amsterdam for performances on July 2 and 3. The very next day, at that same festival, Ioanna Paraskevopoulou will be joined by Giorgos Kotsifakis for a performance of “MOS”, and leaving their own unique imprint through a series of cinematic scenes and moving images.

Next up: Barcelona and northern Italy, with “Larsen C” appearing at the Festival Grec on July 16 and 17, and an improvised concert given by the Harris Lambrakis Quartet at Teatro Ristori on July 26 as part of Mittelfest.
