Dimitris will study neurolinguistics to help children on the autism spectrum manage language-processing issues. Katerina will examine the techniques employed by influencers on social networking platforms to counter racial and gender discrimination. Emmanuel dreams to contribute to the understanding of the phenomenon of economic inequality through his research. Christina will study the application of nanotechnology in cancer research. They, along with 101 other young “residents,” will break new ground with their knowledge, talent, and ideas, which will make our society better. We wish them a bright start in their studies.
Meet some of the new residents of the city of tomorrow
Stelios Iliadis: He completed his undergraduate studies with honors and graduated first from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, while is currently pursuing doctoral studies at the University of London on the use of Artificial Intelligence for drug design. His research is innovative and has a long-term goal of improving the effectiveness of existing treatments, discovering new treatments for incurable diseases, as well as achieving reduced medical costs and personalized treatments.
Emmanuel Kampourogiannis: He completed his undergraduate and postgraduate studies at the Athens University of Economics and Business with honors. In his Ph.D., he will research social inequalities and the causes behind their emergence. His vision is to contribute to the understanding of the phenomenon of economic inequality, mobilizing various scientific disciplines, and to help formulate effective proposals to address it.
Dimitrios Kastanas: Starting from Patras, he completed his studies in Linguistics at the University of Patras with a 9.36 degree and continued his studies at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom where he completed a master's degree with honors (with a scholarship from the Onassis Foundation). Currently, he is pursuing doctoral studies in Neurolinguistics. His research focuses on high-functioning children on the autism spectrum and issues related to language processing and language acquisition.
Christina Koretsidou: Hailing from the city of Orestiada, she completed her undergraduate and postgraduate studies in Psychology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki with honors. She will continue her academic journey at the University College Dublin in Ireland, where she will pursue a Ph.D. degree with a research subject on sexual violence and harassment in Greek higher education. She will monitor the frequency of such incidents, whether a sense of security is safeguarded, and the effectiveness of the incident reporting mechanism.
Achilleas Laskaratos: He graduated with honors from the Medical School of Athens and is now pursuing doctoral studies in Switzerland in neuroscience. His goal is to combine his clinical knowledge with neuroscience research to contribute to the development of treatments for patients with quadriplegia due to spinal cord injury.
Katerina Mniestri: She completed her undergraduate studies in Humanities with honors and was accepted for doctoral studies at LSE in the United Kingdom with a thesis topic, “Data Feminism meets Platformisation: A critical study of power and discrimination in YouTube and TikTok.” She will examine the techniques employed by influencers on social media platforms to counter racial and gender discrimination.
Christina Christodoulou: She graduated first in her undergraduate studies in Natural Sciences and is currently pursuing her Ph.D. studies at UCL on the research topic of the application of Nanotechnology in cancer research. Nanotechnology promises to revolutionize cancer treatments by developing therapeutic nanoparticles, which have the capacity to transport drugs and lead them straight to cancer cells.
