Antetokounbros Academy

A collaboration of the Onassis Foundation with Nike and Eurohoops Organization

100 young athletes and 12 coaches from underprivileged backgrounds start their journey towards success in basketball and life.

In Onassis Foundation, we create the conditions, explore the ideas and trigger the discussions that lead to a better society. We take stands and initiate debates about diversity, inclusion, women's empowerment. We support people with bold ideas and optimistic dreams, and work with them in order to realize them.

The story and vision of Giannis and his brothers, Thanasis, Kostas, Alex and Francis, inspires and completes us. A society of equality and diversity, which provides space and opportunities to young people in order to compete with themselves, release their potential and claim their dreams. Onassis Foundation's collaboration with the AntetokounBros Academy came naturally, to underscore our beliefs and support. Allying with two partners who think, dare and lay claims the same way we do: Nike and Eurohoops.

Fate can start you at the bottom. Dreams can take you to the top.

WHAT IS ANTETOKOUNBROS ACADEMY

In a program that combines basketball with education and training with inspiration, 100 boys and girls 12 to 16 years old that live in underprivileged areas progress, unfold their talent and learn to put their best foot forward in and out of the basketball court, as a united team. A team that brings together different ethnicities, religions and genders.

Citizens of dreams
The Antetokounmpo brothers create the AntetokounBros Academy to offer to young children opportunities and chances that they didn’t have in their age. The program will help show up charming neighborhoods of Athens that have always had talents, yet they did not have basketball courts. Children and teenagers who grow up in these neighborhoods build valuable alliances, become useful and supportive teammates, classmates and allies in the basketball court, at home, at school, and in society.

Workshops and Talks at Onassis Stegi
The aims of the AntetokounBros Academy go beyond basketball. They aim at interaction, team spirit and personal development. Apart from the training sessions, Onassis Foundation organizes a series of workshops and talks that take place at Stegi. In these, children and teenagers develop their social skills, learn how to talk in front of large audiences, how to negotiate and lay claims, but also how to tackle bullying. The talks focus on subjects such as diversity and strengthening women’s position in society.
Scholarships from the Onassis Foundation

And we don’t stop there. Because, in the course of the AntetokounBros Academy, there are chances and opportunities of development during the program but also after its completion. The participants can apply for the Onassis Foundation scholarship “One of a Kind” for undergraduate studies in Greece, which is awarded for the total duration of their university studies; four children will be able to attend summer schools at the United Kingdom; a female apprentice coach will be able to participate in a basketball coach academy abroad; while, after the completion of the program, all the athletes and apprentice coaches will have access to useful information and advice on their personal and professional development.
