ONX Futures: AI & Mixed Reality in Moving Image
NOV 2025 - FEB 2026
What is the future of cinematic storytelling? Who is the actual creator of a work when it is co-created with Artificial Intelligence? How are Mixed Realities transforming the way moving images are produced? The new Onassis ONX program in Athens arrives as a “survival guide” to today’s creative process.
This year’s theme, which inaugurates the ONX Futures program, focuses on Artificial Intelligence and Mixed Realities through the lens of Virtual Production.
Through a three-month intensive skills development program, it invites directors, filmmakers, producers, advertisers, photographers and videographers, visual effects artists, and musicians to rethink the grammar of the moving image and reexamine the ethical and legal questions that arise in the age of algorithms and AI-assisted co-creation.
Talks, open discussions, and masterclasses with international speakers and collaborators make up a program that explores the many ways new technologies are transforming contemporary storytelling and the production process of audiovisual works, from script development and writing to post-production and distribution. Among the speakers are acclaimed artists and professionals such as Cyril Foiter of Maison Meta, Athens Surreal (Tina Marinaki), Navid Khonsar, Aaron Santiago, Matthew Rader, Andrea Gatopoulos, Yolanda Markopoulou, Sam Pressman, and Michaela Ternasky-Holland.
At the same time, the program opens up a discussion around the ethical issues that arise in the age of co-creation with artificial intelligence tools and guides creators as well as production companies through legal matters to ensure the proper use of new media. Participants include the World Intellectual Property Organization and guest speakers from the field.
ONX Futures invites production companies, professionals, creators in the audiovisual field, and digital agencies to explore all the elements that make up a film, a commercial clip, a reel, or any audiovisual work.
Selected projects developed within the program will receive seed funding to advance the creation of a prototype work.
An intensive in-person bootcamp and online masterclasses are structured around three thematic modules: Generative AI in Moving Image, Virtual and XR Production, and Intellectual Property Rights Management Strategies.
ONX Futures 2025 is implemented in collaboration with the Onassis Stegi Cinema team.
The program begins with an intensive three-day introductory session from November 21 to 23 at the new Onassis ONX space, Onassis Ready. Its goal is to present new digital tools and their limits, but also delve into creative practices and explore ways to protect human creativity and knowledge where Artificial Intelligence prevails.
After the three-day session, weekly online practical masterclasses will follow, each focused on a different stage of the production process—from screenwriting to 2D and 3D design—with an emphasis on AI and Virtual Production. Participants may register for one or more thematic modules and attend as many masterclasses as they wish. The masterclasses will run from late November through early February.
After the program concludes, an internal open call will invite participants to submit proposals for an audiovisual project they wish to develop using the tools they have explored.
Selected projects will receive seed funding of up to €3,000 to develop and present their work at the ONX Athens Showcase in May at Onassis Ready.
The program is free and open to all (pre-registration required)
Language: English
Duration: 3 months
Format: Hybrid (in person at Onassis Ready + online)
