Interior Ignition Stage | Chair & Stool

Wood

Description

“Interior Ignition Stage” consists of two elements, a chair and a stool, built from an intricate assemblage of different woods. Some parts are traditionally carved; others are contemporary found objects, brought together to foreground the warmth, grain, and character of the material. Developed in close collaboration with fellow artisans, the work pushes craft beyond refinement toward experimentation. The title points to a spark: craft turns into ignition, without burning the material’s voice. The two pieces share a lineage: conceived simultaneously, each influenced the other as their forms emerged through making. Rather than working toward a fixed image of the final object, the team followed momentum, testing joins, switching components, and allowing chance decisions to redirect the whole. The result is a pair of works shaped by sustained material improvisation and by the specific circumstances of their production. As Kostas Lambridis notes, what matters is less “balance” than the attempt to merge disparate elements into a single unity, while repeatedly asking whether adding truly moves the work forward. That hesitation becomes a mental space for new options; the endpoint is simply the moment one chooses to stop.
