A documentary, a concert, a discussion and a book: celebrating the most popular pianist of the 20th century.
The Onassis Stegi is organizing a series of events in association with the Canadian Embassy in Athens to mark the 80th anniversary of the birth, and 30th of the death, of the great Canadian pianist, Glenn Gould.
The tribute begins with a round-table discussion about Gould’s complex relationship with the procedures of the concert hall and the recording studio, and about the impact new recording media have had on the performance and distribution of classical music. This is followed by the screening of a film which will give us an opportunity to draw closer to an often enigmatic genius as we take a stroll around Toronto.
On November 22, there will be a presentation of a new book on Gould translated and edited by Stefanos Theodoridis for Nefeli publications.
The tribute will end with a concert featuring Marika Bournaki, the 20 year-old Canadian pianist of Greek descent who is very much a rising star on the international music scene.
