Introduction

Did you know that mushrooms play an important role in the processes of material cycling and composting? Or that some species of mushrooms develop symbiotic relationships with plants that are beneficial to both organisms, forming vast networks similar to the structure of the internet?

In a world where pollution is increasing and land is diminishing, mushrooms have the potential to solve the problems we face today. Examples include the cleaning of soils from organic pollutants, the development of alternatives to plastics through the use of mycelium, or their many medical applications. Some mushrooms are also an extremely healthy food source and can be easily grown at home.

This workshop will provide all the necessary information about the different methods of mushroom cultivation. After a short theoretical introduction and a practical part, at the end of the workshop all participants will be able to take home pasteurized, incubated mushroom substrates for observation and harvesting.

Those who wish can also bring their own used coffee grounds in a clean plastic bag for a second experiment. The coffee grounds should not be more than one day old and should have been exposed to light for as little as possible.

Useful Information

It is explicitly stated that:

During the workshop, participants will come into contact with and grow fresh mushrooms, which will be delivered to them by the instructor. These mushrooms are legally sourced and are not the product of illicit trade.

Based on the most current list of toxic mushrooms in effect, these are edible and are not considered hazardous to humans. However, no participant should consume the mushrooms as part of the workshop, as they will only be used for observation and harvesting.

In any case, the use of these mushrooms is allowed in Greece and they are commercially available.

Please ensure that you agree to the above terms and that you do not suffer from any allergy in case of contact with the mushrooms. The submission of the relevant application form implies the explicit and unconditional acceptance of all of the above. In case you are allergic to mushrooms and yet consume any of them, ARIONA will not be held responsible for any damage to your health.
