Introduction
How can a visit to the hospital, usually a source of stress and unease, turn to a positive experience for children, teenagers and adults with autism?
A hospital visit can be a tough challenge for people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Unfamiliar rooms, waiting, being touched by doctors and healthcare workers, and so much more that passes unnoticed for most people could cause a lot of stress to children, teenagers, and adults with ASD. Even a routine check-up can be a source of anxiety.
This educational program aims at the familiarization with the use of educational material and at the creation of personalized social stories, practical advice, and steps, that will mentally prepare people of all ages with ASD to “go to the doctor” for a heart examination.
Find out how you can help people with ASD and their companions to be properly and methodically prepared for their hospital visit and help them turn a stressful procedure to a positive experience.
- Participants are required to attend all 3 meetings of the program.
- To familiarize participants with handbooks published by the scientific team of the educational program “In the heart of autism.”
- To instruct participants in the personalized use of the social stories educational guidebook.
- To offer supervision and guidance regarding the case studies of participants.
Submitting an online application does not guarantee participation in the program.
Participation will be decided on a first-come first-served basis.
