Harris Lambrakis Quartet

Despite their name, the Harris Lambrakis Quartet is not a jazz quartet in the classic sense of the word. They’re not a world music group, either, nor do they play traditional music or fusion. What they are is a group which, though it sees itself as doing something highly specific, never tries to define that something, which allows the quartet to be constantly on the move musically. In their concert at the Onassis Stegi, they will be performing “Lafina”, their third CD, along with pieces from their two previous albums, “Théa” and “Metéora”.

The Harris Lambrakis Quartet is made up of four Athenian musicians with roots in Epirus who strain their ears to capture the sounds of the city in which they were born and raised, who seek beauty in the everyday, and who have striven to communicate meaningfully with each other as they have charted their common course since 2006. Some of the things they cherish in common are modal jazz, the music of Epirus, rehearsing in Nikos’ room in Nea Smyrni, road trips and their families.
