Introduction

AB7 opens an intercultural dialog on alternative ways of coexisting in the here and now. Between September 24 and November 28, 2021, at the downtown Athens’ historical center, in partnership with Onassis Culture.

ECLIPSE, designed to reveal the diverse aspects of the transition we are experiencing now, aims to awaken the audiences’ imagination on the possible parallel worlds and different versions of the future. ECLIPSE features more than 80 artists, both up-and-coming and renowned, from North and South America, the Caribbean, Africa, and Europe, with 32 new productions and premieres, in iconic buildings at the heart of Athens.

Why Eclipse?
The exhibition title highlights the obscured perspective of reality caused by the constant state of flux we are experiencing in our society now. ECLIPSE engages the social, political, and spiritual changes of today's global construct and in Athens itself, as a rising metropolis located at the intersection of Europe, Asia, and Africa both physically and historically.

An eclipse is a phenomenon of filtering and shrouding as well as a cosmic event. The experience of the eclipse functions as a catalyst for reprocessing an unresolved past that can inform an unspoken present and ultimately shape our future. Thus, Athens serves as the appropriate vantage point for contemplating the nuances of time and space; furthermore, examining the question if the West is in decline or in a moment of significant transformation?

You can predict the eclipse./ but you can do nothing about it./ so you observe it, you admire it, you use it as an astrological excuse for misunderstandings./ the eclipse is there to remind you that you cannot take the light for granted./ is there to reveal rather than hide./
