“It’s beautiful to live within your own language,” he continued. “And you really do carry your city with you. Metaphorically, wherever you go, you carry your city along.”
On Friday, November 14, the award-winning director Wim Wenders took to the Main Stage of the Stegi to converse with Afroditi Panagiotakou, Artistic Director of the Onassis Foundation.
Holding in his hands a book of poems by C. P. Cavafy, the most emblematic European filmmaker of his generation, Wim Wenders, was in Athens as part of a tribute to his work. The discussion focused on his journey in cinema, the encounters that shaped him as an artist and creator, as well as the challenges that the digital era poses for filmmaking.
He then went on to recite a poem by C. P. Cavafy, saying, “I really liked entering Cavafy’s world today. His poems truly captivated me.”
“My films start from a place that I love, and then I tell a story. I want people to see the place and take part in the story.”
