Theofanis Tasis
Theofanis Tasis teaches Philosophy of Information and Digital Humanities at the Ionian University. He has served as a lecturer at the Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt and a visiting professor at Universität St. Gallen and the Freie Universität Berlin.
A graduate in Physics, he received a PhD in Philosophy with honors (summa cum laude) from the Freie Universität Berlin. He was a Stanley J. Seeger Fellow at Princeton University and a Marie Curie Research Fellow at the Université Saint-Louis in Brussels.
His research focuses on digital humanism and the philosophy of artificial intelligence and human enhancement, exploring the relationship between technology, politics, and ethics, with central concepts including the iconistic condition, mortality, and the art of living.
His books, “Cornelius Castoriadis: A Philosophy of Autonomy” (2007, 3rd ed. 2022) and “Politics of Bios: The Irony” (2012, 2nd ed. 2025), were honored with the Kaftantzoglio Prize. These were followed by “Politics of Bios II: Self-Care in the Iconistic Society” (2017, 3rd ed. 2021), “Digital Humanism: The Iconistic Subject and Artificial Intelligence” (2019, 5th ed. 2025; nominated for the State Literary Award for Essay), “Philosophy of Human Enhancement” (2021, 2nd ed. 2022), and “Digital Humanism II: Artificial Intelligence and the Art of Living” (2025), which expands the exploration of the iconistic condition. He has translated works by Martin Heidegger, John Stuart Mill, Alexander Nehamas, and Roberto Mangabeira Unger. His bibliography also includes the philosophical journal “En mesi odo” (2023) and the poetry collections “Physiological Findings” (2001), “Afternoons in Capitalism” (2010), and “Pharmakon” (2011).
He participates in public debates as a speaker, including the Delphi Economic Forum, Economist Government Round Table, and Quo Vadis AI Act, while also contributing articles, since 2016, to the annual Greek edition of “Economist.”
