Nikolas Tsoukalas

Nikolas Tsoukalas is a geologist. He studied at the Department of Geology of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He received a scholarship from the Onassis Foundation for his postgraduate studies in geology at St. Mary’s University (2008), Halifax, Canada, which focused on the stratigraphy of volcanic rocks of the island of Kos, Greece. He worked at the Natural History Museum of the Petrified Forest of Lesvos, as well as at the Centre for Research and Technology, Hellas.
He has participated in international conferences and has published articles in scientific journals. Since his university years, he has participated in geomorphological surveys and palaeontological excavations of fossilized prehistoric plants and vertebrates, aiming at tracing, saving, and highlighting palaeontological findings, as well as at putting together exhibitions across Greece in order to disseminate findings to a wider public. For numerous years, he has designed and offered educational programs to students, and has been actively engaged in sharing his knowledge about geology with museum and exhibition visitors. His general interests include outdoors activities such as hiking, cycling, speleology, and photography, as well as the building of electronic circuits.
