Markela Kontaratou
Markela Kontaratou is a film director based in Athens. She studied visual arts at the Athens School of Fine Arts and English Literature at the American College of Greece and completed her master’s degree in film directing at the London Film School with distinction. Her work as a visual artist has been presented in group exhibitions in Greece and internationally. Her debut short, “Scorched Earth” (2023), premiered in the Pardi di Domani competition section of the 76th Locarno Film Festival. Since then, it has been screened at the Palm Springs Film Festival, the Aesthetica Short Film Festival, the International Short Film Festival of Drama, and others. In 2025, it was selected for the Spring Academy program of the Locarno Festival.
