Maria Papaioannou

Head of Arts and Arts Consultant for the British Council

Maria has been working as Head of Arts and Arts Consultant for the British Council since 2012. She has implemented a number of international art projects such as the International Creative Writing Summer School, Tri - Culture Shift: Technology meets Art with Google (Athens, Madrid, Nicosia), Transforming Future Museums and Co-Museum conference. She has been leading in the development of an EU museum programme for the British Council - Museums Revisited – as well as co-developing the EU Circular Cultures programme and contributing to the EU arts strategy of the organisation. After spending 7 years in the UK, she returned to Greece in 2010 and worked as Independent Curator and Arts and Culture Consultant for CultureOut. She holds a BA in History (Ionian University) and an MA in Museum Studies: Culture, Collections and Communication (Winchester School of Art, University of Southampton).
