Maria Akritidou

Maria Akritidou is a Laboratory Teaching Fellow and postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Philology at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh). She completed graduate studies in Theory of Literature and Translation Studies (AUTh) and holds a PhD in Modern Greek Studies (Freie Universität Berlin). Her dissertation, “Aspects of the Modern Greek Past in Contemporary Greek Fiction: Narrative Modality and Historical Poetics” [in Greek], was published by Edition Romiosini/CeMoG (Berlin, 2019). Her research interests center on Modern Greek literature (with a focus on the interplay between history and literature), cultural history and textual scholarship, literary archives, and digital humanities (with a focus on digital scholarly editing and digital literary history).

She has taught undergraduate and postgraduate courses on these subjects and has contributed to the development of teaching materials for the Hellenic Open University’s MA program in Digital Humanities, as well as for teacher training in digital media. Her postdoctoral research focuses on Modern Greek digital scholarly editions, using a 19th-century poetry collection by Aristotelis Valaoritis as a case study, and her most recent publication concerns the digital literary archive of the poet Dionysios Solomos. Her engagement with Cavafy and digital scholarship comes from her work on the digital project “Anemoskala” (Center for the Greek Language), where she prepared the poetic corpus (reading text, text encoding, editorial note) and an introduction to the poet’s life and work.
