Dr Athina E Markaki

Associate Professor, Engineering Department, University of Cambridge

Dr Markaki received her diploma at the National Technical University of Athens, and her PhD at Cambridge University. Following post-doctoral positions at Cambridge and MIT, she was appointed to a Lectureship at the Engineering Department in Cambridge. As a principal investigator, she has secured funding of ~€2.5 million, carrying out interdisciplinary research in healthcare/medical engineering. She has received several awards including the 2017 Rosetrees Trust Interdisciplinary Award, Acta Materialia 2016 (outstanding reviewer), European Research Council Starting Grant (2010), an Advanced EPSRC1 Fellowship (2005), the 2004 De Montford Award ("SET2 for Britain”), Young Scientist Prize 2003 (5th Euromech Solid Mechanics Conference), and scholarship/awards from the State Scholarship Foundation, the Evgenidio Foundation and the Technical Chamber of Greece.
