Aïssata Kouyaté

Dancer, choreographer, and singer, Aïssata Kouyaté blends tradition with modernity in a repertoire that draws from African heritage to present a contemporary Africa—one that is future-oriented and constantly evolving. A modern-day griot, she fully embraces her African identity and its extraversion towards the world.

Initiated into the arts of singing and dance at a very young age, she joined Les Ballets Africains at 15. Two years later, she was recruited by Mory Kanté as a solo singer and toured globally with him for five years. She went on to collaborate with renowned artists and groups such as Mamady Keïta and his Sewa Kan ensemble, Touré Kunda, Pierre Marcault, the percussion group Tam Tam Mandingue, and the jazz trio Andoma. She later joined the Compagnie Georges Momboye, contributing to various choreographic and musical creations.

After years of performing and touring, she shifted her focus to teaching traditional Guinean dances. Today, she continues to travel and teach around the world, including in Europe, Asia, and the Americas.
