FUTURE N.O.W. | Open Call 2023 – 24

New original works, new original worlds

FUTURE N.O.W. is back. Art in all its forms is taking to the stage – be it digital or other – and heading out into the city. Onassis Stegi is seeking artists with startling ideas, and new works that create new worlds. The future is here. Over and again.

Submission deadline has been extended to July 17.

Onassis Stegi is calling all young artists active in the performing arts, no matter their creative background – those working on the borders between theater, dance and performance, and within their hybrid combinations – to submit their proposals.

We live in a world that’s constantly in flux. The future retains a small element of surprise for us all, accompanied as it is by climate change and environmental scenarios of planetary destruction, the violent displacement of populations and human rights abuses, augmented reality, bioethics, big data, and epidemiological pandemics. Set against the backdrop of such socio-political realities, we are seeking new practices, new tools, and new ideas. Artworks that will startle audiences, tackling everything that’s difficult but also everything that’s pleasant – works that can stand tall beside Onassis Stegi’s large-scale productions.
Priority will be given to proposals submitted by young and emerging artists, by those whose work has never before been presented at Onassis Stegi, and by those who wish to attempt new artistic approaches across fields in which they have not experimented to date. Particular weight will be placed on proposals exploring new dramaturgical and esthetic forms, original research interests, and unexpected artistic practices. We are equally interested in projects designed for both indoor stages and outdoor public spaces. Proposals can be for theater and dance performances, and for immersive, V.R., and A.I. experiences.

The outreach potential of Onassis Stegi productions is an ongoing concern. In line with this, we are seeking original creations that can presented both in Greece and internationally: projects that can – in terms of tone and content, and with regard to their scenographic, production, and technical specifications – tour the world to be presented at arts festivals, theater and dance venues, and other cultural institutions beyond Greece.

GUIDELINES FOR THE SUBMISSION OF NEW, ORIGINAL WORKS
All proposed works must be original creations and texts never presented in Greece before in the form they are presently being submitted to Onassis Stegi.

The submission of a proposal is no guarantee that it will be included as part of Onassis Stegi’s programming.

Onassis Stegi is under no obligation to communicate the reasoning behind its choices with regard to proposals that are rejected.
