PROSPERO NEW
A New European Stage for the Theater of Tomorrow
PROSPERO NEW is a dynamic European platform dedicated to supporting and promoting emerging theater makers. It builds on the long-standing legacy of the Prospero network, which since 2006 has brought leading European theater organizations into dialogue, fostering artistic exchange and cross-border collaboration.
Today, through PROSPERO NEW, this collaboration takes on a renewed form and an expanded scale. Bringing together 19 leading organizations from across Europe, the platform creates a vibrant ecosystem that supports artists at a pivotal moment in their careers—when they move from national recognition to an international stage. Over the course of four years, PROSPERO NEW opens pathways for new voices in directing and theater-making, offering opportunities for artistic development, mobility, and meaningful engagement with diverse audiences. Through residencies, co-productions, touring, mentoring, and networking activities, participating artists are empowered to develop their work, experiment, and expand their presence across Europe.
At the same time, the platform invests in knowledge-sharing and dialogue around some of the most pressing questions facing contemporary theater, including sustainability, diversity, and artists’ working conditions—actively contributing to shaping the future of the sector. PROSPERO NEW is more than a network—it is a living space where ideas, practices, and artistic languages meet. By bringing together organizations and artists from diverse cultural contexts, it strengthens connections across the European theater landscape and nurtures new forms of creation and storytelling.
At its core lies the belief that theater can serve as a space for exchange, understanding, and renewal, where new voices can find their way to broader international audiences.
PROSPERO NEW is built on a strong network of 19 organizations and festivals from 18 European countries, combining experience, geographical diversity, and a wide range of artistic perspectives.
The project is coordinated by Théâtre de Liège (Belgium). The network also includes major institutions and festivals such as the Festival d’Avignon (France), Schaubühne Berlin (Germany), Dublin Theatre Festival (Ireland), Wiener Festwochen (Austria), NTGent (Belgium), as well as prominent national theaters and international festivals from Spain, Portugal, Bulgaria, Italy, Poland, Romania, Georgia, and beyond.
Onassis Stegi is an active member of the platform, contributing its experience to supporting contemporary creators and helping shape an open, inclusive, and internationally connected artistic landscape.
