Taking off from the Onassis Channel on YouTube before making a stop at Teatros del Canal in Madrid, the four wannabe superheroes of Elias Adam’s “We Are in the Army Now” are coming in to land in the city of Mülheim, Germany, to appear at the renowned Ringlokschuppen Ruhr performing arts venue with the support of Onassis Stegi’s Outward Turn program. Recruitment Days: 8-9 April, 2022
It is a place where regional and international artists representing a diversity of art forms are brought together inside an impressive industrial heritage building that houses four stages. In addition to a variety of in-house productions, Ringlokschuppen Ruhr regularly initiates participatory projects in urban space, while its co-productions have received numerous national and international nominations and prizes, including the German Federal Theater Prize in 2019.
Onassis Stegi has partnered with Ringlokschuppen Ruhr before as part of the Moving Borders European performing arts network, joining another five production houses and institutions – in the cities of Dresden, Porto, Strasbourg, Utrecht, and Warsaw – to formulate the participatory ARK project that was presented in the summer of 2021 across all seven cities, with Elias Adam creating “ARK Athens: Kivotos Channel”.
The Ringlokschuppen Ruhr presentation of the production “We Are in the Army Now” was realized with the organizational, financial, and technical support of Onassis Stegi as part of its Outward Turn program. Outward Turn also actively supported the presentation of “We Are in the Army Now” at Teatros del Canal in Madrid in January 2022, where all three of the work’s performances were warmly received by audiences.
