Tilos Weddings. The new film by Panayotis Evangelidis exclusively screened at the Upper Stage
There is a mayor in Tilos who can marry same-sex couples. Ηaving already achieved important collaborations, among others, with Panos Koutras with whom he has co-written the films “True Life,” “Strella,” and “Xenia”, the director and screenwriter Panayotis Evangelidis presents his new film “Tilos Weddings” at the Onassis Stegi Upper Stage.
Within an atmosphere pitched between laughter and emotion and among activists and proud members of the LGBTQI+ community, the exclusive screening of “Tilos Weddings” film by Panayotis Evangelidis was held at the Upper Stage of Onassis Stegi on Thursday 19 January. A story about the first marriages of same-sex couples ever performed in Greece, the self-evidence of human rights, and the dissolution of homophobia. More so, an almost conspiratorial attempt to place boldly on the public agenda not only consensual union but the right to marriage for all.
A Q&A session between the audience and the director followed the screening.
Synopsis
In 2008, the mayor of the island of Tilos agreed to perform the first same-sex civil marriages in Greece. The film traces the story of these two civil marriages based on material filmed on-site, as well as footage from the same year’s Gay Pride, press conferences, and protests related to the issue.
