Onassis ONX launches ONX Relay

Building on five years of supporting artists and the broader art and advanced technology field, ONX Relay takes a holistic approach to commissioning. The initiative combines funding with production resources, technical expertise, curatorial guidance, and access to Onassis ONX studios in Athens and New York, while helping artists develop pathways for their work to circulate through museums, cultural institutions, galleries, foundations, and a wider range of organizations and partners. At its core is a commitment to helping artists meet their audiences, whatever those audiences may be.

Over the coming season, the inaugural cohort of Trevor Paglen, Maya Man, and Ben Frost will develop new projects through a sustained process of experimentation, production, and technical and creative support. Rather than treating the creation of a work and its eventual presentation as separate stages, ONX Relay encourages artists from the outset to consider how their projects can be built, documented, maintained, adapted, and presented across different and broader contexts. The initiative will culminate in a convening in spring 2027, bringing the developing works into conversation with curators, producers, institutions, collectors, and other potential partners who can support their future presentation and circulation.

ONX Relay also reflects a broader commitment by Onassis ONX to strengthening the ecosystem around technologically complex artistic practices. As artificial intelligence, algorithmic media, machine vision, immersive technologies, and other advanced systems become increasingly embedded in contemporary life, artists are creating vital spaces in which audiences can encounter and question their impact. ONX Relay is designed not only to help artists realize and sustain ambitious work, but also to build partnerships with institutions, strengthen their capacity to present experimental practices, and encourage greater sharing of knowledge and resources across the field. Technology may be central to how these works are made, but the initiative ultimately supports artists using it to address larger questions about culture, perception, creativity, and human connection.

Trevor Paglen — Neural Images

Trevor Paglen’s “Neural Images” explores the relationship between artificial intelligence, perception, and neuroscience through collaborations with leading computational neuroscience laboratories. ONX Relay will support the development of an immersive interactive installation alongside a series of large-scale paintings generated through AI-assisted image-making, examining the evolving relationship between human perception and machine intelligence.

Maya Man — Dreams Come True

Maya Man’s “Dreams Come True” is a generative multi-channel video installation centered on a fictional K-pop-inspired girl group created through AI text-to-video and text-to-music models. Blending speculative fiction with internet culture, the work explores identity, authenticity, celebrity, and labor in an increasingly algorithmic media landscape.

Ben Frost — Prometheus

Ben Frost’s “Prometheus” is a large-scale multichannel video and spatial sound installation reimagining Aeschylus’ “Prometheus Bound” through contemporary immersive media. Combining filmed performance, original composition, and architectural-scale moving image, the project transforms the exhibition space into an environment exploring mythology, political resistance, sacrifice, and endurance.
